Projects

Office of Attorney General, TX

As a contractor under Accenture for the T2 Project commissioned by the State of Texas, our team updated the child support enforcement system used to establish child support orders, enforce order compliance, and collect and disburse child support payments. Throughout the project, we achieved several highlights and milestones. We performed in-depth SQL tuning and analysis for OLAP/OLTP systems and custom-built a
cross-platform and self-executable Python-based SQL monitoring and reporting application. This enabled the DB team to pinpoint troublesome queries, generate full reports and graphs,
and capture parameter markers.

We collaborated with application development to refactor code (JAVA Spring framework) and business logic better to handle scalability for ETL jobs and frontend applications. Additionally, we implemented environment-wide workload management for OLAP/OLTP systems, complete with threshold capturing and executing rule-based actions.

Our team restructured the database architecture (table space layout, table structure, materialized views, and indexes) to minimize storage needs while providing a boost in performance. We also provided end-to-end performance testing support, from the web frontend, load balancer, LDAP authentication, and database, utilizing LoadRunner/Gatling (load tester), Shell, and Python scripting.

We facilitated the organization-wide adoption of Tower + Ansible and provided hands-on training in best practices for writing and structuring jobs. Our team implemented and deployed Ansible jobs, which installed and configured databases for environment-specific needs (row and column access, LDAP authentication, grants, and configuration syncing). We worked to identify, troubleshoot, and mitigate project-wide SAN-related issues with hardware services vendors. We facilitated a POC to implement in transitioning from ClearCase/ClearQuest for source control and issue tracking to GIT and JIRA.

Additionally, our team helped facilitate the onboarding of IBM Data Server Manager to monitor and send alerts for over 200 Db2 databases across multiple data centers. We installed and configured the Db2 disaster recovery (HADR) environment and implemented/trained and helped incorporate the use of Python for various teams across multiple areas of interest (i.e., WebSphere user management, Db2 event monitoring, and general Python tutoring).

MATHEMATICA POLICY RESEARCH, TX

FEDSCAPE Inc provided design services to a consulting firm that specializes in insourced big data solutions such as Hadoop, SAS, and Vertica, among others. The clients they served include ForwardLane, Mathematica Policy Research (MPR), and Siwel Consulting.

The team designed and implemented an 8-node Hadoop cluster (Cloudera) for MPR, utilizing Sqoop, Spark, Flume, Impala, HIVE, Sentry, and PIG. They also designed and implemented a 12-node SAS cluster on bare metal and virtual instances for the same client, which involved architecting a SAN layout and implementing an HDFS layer on GFS2 and XFS. The team utilized Pacemaker and Corosync to synchronize tasks across all nodes.

As the lead, FEDSCAPE actively integrated the client’s existing Active Directory Authentication with the 12-node Cloudera Enterprise instance, from requirements to execution. They also introduced and implemented Samba (SMB file share) to bridge the gap between the client’s once “Windows-only” environment and Linux. Overall, FEDSCAPE’s design and implementation services helped the clients achieve their big data goals efficiently and effectively.

QUANTADVISOR, Austin TX

Architected and designed financial analytical platforms with big data solutions, including Greenplum Data Warehouse (MPP) and Talend Data Integration Suite (ETL). Built RHEL bare-metal and virtual development, test, and production environments from scratch and incorporated single entity configuration management for all environments using Puppet and in-house Python-built solutions.

Implemented and deployed automated continuous integration testing for development and testing, resulting in weekly reports sent to all interested parties about the latest development changes and task completion prior to production handoff.

Additionally, developed a front-end and back-end application that serves as a tool for consumers to gauge their financial success when planning for retirement or other investment planning. This application has enabled users to make more informed financial decisions.

HOMELAND SECURITY DEPARTMENT, Washington, DC

FEDSCAPE, Inc successfully completed a project as a Db2 administrator and architect under IBM’s Global Business Services. The project involved maintaining and developing SecureFlight’s reporting and analytical tools while ensuring the architectural integrity and stability of supporting databases. As part of the project, FEDSCAPE, Inc performed database backups using TSM for storage management, analyzed, designed, and implemented database objects for new applications, and migrated data from production to QA environments for UAT and application testing. The company also set up backup jobs across all DEV/TEST/PROD, implemented daily and weekly health check jobs for database systems, and led production support for change management deliveries for database and application changes. FEDSCAPE, Inc spearheaded the DB2 v9.5 to v9.7 migration for all dev/test/prod environments, set up replication between operational and reporting databases, and played a lead role in helping recover data using point- in-time recovery.

Additionally, the company implemented capacity planning and partition table/index for very large and fast-growing tables, coordinated with the development team for coding static SQL stored procedures, and worked with the application team for SQL optimization. FEDSCAPE, Inc also played a vital role in planning and preparing for major production/development tasks by discussing with application managers and onsite counterparts. Overall, FEDSCAPE, Inc successfully completed the project, delivering high-quality results that met and exceeded the client's expectations.

Rapid HVAC Inc, Rockville MD

Fedscape upgraded Rapid HVAC Inc, a family-owned heating, plumbing, and electrical services business, to modernize its processes and workflows using the AWS stack. Fedscape was responsible for updating the company’s web back-end to a CRM-based portal, intake, and tracking inventory using OpenERP and streamlining project management by incorporating OpenProject and Focal board. The project was successful, resulting in increased customer satisfaction, improved project management, and contract acquisitions for Rapid HVAC Inc. During the project, Fedscape shifted the company’s inventory management to an AWS- managed instance based on OpenERP and PostgreSQL backend. They also created a microservice for push notification alerts for technicians to track and notify service calls based on AWS Gateway API to invoke a Python-based Lambda function triggering SNS. The mappings between users and mobile devices were stored in a DynamoDB endpoint.

Additionally, Fedscape incorporated AWS ECS to streamline the composition and deployment of full-stack solutions. For project management, OpenProject + Postgres (DB) and for ERP OpenERP + Postgres were used, with both stacks proxied through a Traefik controller. The successful implementation of these technologies allowed Rapid HVAC Inc to improve its operations and service delivery, ultimately leading to the company's growth and success.
